“Atiku, Obi will take Nigeria backwards”: Tinubu's daughter launches 10-million-vote drive as the subsidy war heats up

Iyaloja-General Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, President Tinubu's daughter, launched a movement at Eagle Square promising 10 million votes for her father and urged Nigerians not to consider Atiku Abubakar or Peter Obi. She admitted the government's policies have made life difficult but said things will improve.

The launch (29 Oct): Mujidat Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, the Iyaloja-General of Nigeria, launched the Iyaloja General Movement (IGM) for Renewed Hope Initiatives at Eagle Square, Abuja, promising to garner 10 million votes for President Tinubu and the APC.

Her message: she urged Nigerians not to consider opposition candidates Atiku Abubakar (ADC) and Peter Obi (NDC), saying, as Daily Trust reported, that they “will only take Nigeria backwards.”

Her admission: she acknowledged that the President's policies have made life difficult for Nigerians but predicted conditions will improve with time. She defended fuel subsidy removal, saying the savings help all three tiers of government fund projects and pay salaries.

The subsidy war: earlier this month Tinubu rejected calls to restore the subsidy: “You cannot ask Moses to go back to Egypt.” Atiku replied: “Bola, you are the Egypt Nigerians are desperate to escape,” and proposes targeted, budgeted support for petrol refined in Nigeria, excluding imports.

Lagos: Obi won Lagos in the 2023 presidential election. Lagos APC leaders now say that “error” has been rectified and Obi poses no threat in the state.
