256 days in detention: El-Rufai demands a fair trial and calls on Trump, Macron and the UN
Former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai marked his 256th day in detention with a post on X framing a fair hearing as a right, not a favour, days after a Federal High Court ordered him to open his defence in the NSA phone-interception case. He denies the allegations.

The post (30 Oct): on his verified X account, tagged #FairTrial, El-Rufai marked what he described as his 256th day in detention and framed a fair hearing as a basic right rather than a favour.
Who he tagged: Donald Trump, Emmanuel Macron, the United Nations, the UN Human Rights Council, Amnesty International, the European Union, the African Union and several international media organisations.
The case: days earlier, a Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed his no-case submission in the case over the alleged interception of the National Security Adviser's phone calls, and ordered him to enter his defence.
A second front: he also faces a separate anti-graft probe over alleged money laundering linked to a petition from the Kaduna State House of Assembly. El-Rufai and the other defendants deny the allegations, which remain for the courts to decide.
Background: he was briefly released in March on compassionate grounds to attend his mother's burial. A key Tinubu ally in 2023, his ministerial nomination was not confirmed by the Senate, and he later left the APC. No public response had come from the government, the anti-graft agencies or the leaders he tagged at the time of writing.
