The pledge: as quoted by the ADC campaign, Tinubu said in 2022: “If I don't give you constant electricity for four years, when I come back for a second term, don't vote for me.”

The attack: Atiku's campaign (Phrank Shaibu): “The APC should spare Nigerians the spectacle of celebrating paperwork while homes and businesses remain in darkness… That promise has not been kept.”

The defence: the APC campaign (Dele Alake) says the pledge must be considered in full context, alongside Tinubu's promise to explain any shortfall. It cites the Electricity Act 2023, transmission investments, more than 1.5 million customers metered, and a ₦4 trillion bond to settle legacy power-sector debts.

What you pay: Band A is about ₦209.50 per kWh before VAT; Bands A–E vary by state and DisCo.

Atiku's plan: to “abolish the present band system and replace it with a fair, transparent and affordable framework.” Premium Times notes no tariff formula, subsidy plan or costing has been published.

Coming next: the government plans to end electricity subsidies from 2027 but says there will be no immediate tariff increase.
