“Jail, starting from the President”: Obi takes his campaign to Abakaliki and goes straight for Tinubu
At a town hall in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, NDC presidential hopeful Peter Obi said Tinubu lacks “the competence” and “the energy” to run Nigeria and “should pack his things, go home and rest”, and promised that anyone who steals “will go to jail, starting from the President.”

The line: “I will fight corruption like nobody has done before. Public money must be for public good. If you steal, you will go to jail, starting from the President.”
On Tinubu: “President Tinubu does not have the competence to run Nigeria. He does not have the energy to run Nigeria. He should pack his things, go home and rest.” He added: “I want him to come to Abakaliki to tell the people what he has done in the past three years.”
Obi's numbers: he said Tinubu “has stayed over 260 days outside Nigeria, yet he cannot spend up to 36 days to go round Nigeria”, and asked what the “nearly $100 billion he borrowed” was used for (as quoted by Vanguard). These are Obi's figures; Votewise has not independently verified them.
Promises: at least 10,000 megawatts of electricity, generated, transmitted and distributed “because we want industrial work” (Vanguard reports this from a town hall in Enugu on the same tour), and emergencies on security, education and corruption. No costing or timeline was given.
The other side: Tinubu has said of his health: “I'm here, healthy and sound, and ready to go.” When Obi called for his resignation in June, presidential adviser Bayo Onanuga called it “childish” and a needless distraction. The Presidency had not responded to the Abakaliki remarks at the time of writing.
